The CROSS Retreat Works!
The CROSS Retreat works for high school youth (grades 9-12) because:
COST: The retreat fee is $70 per person. Simple and confidential scholarships are available. However, we ask that participants request assistance from their own parish prior to making a request from the Diocese. Many parishes are happy to assist. Please request scholarship assistance as early as possible prior to the retreat because we have a limited amount to give.
LEADERSHIP: Parishes sending four or more youth are asked to provide at least one qualified adult chaperon. Those sending more than nine youth should send qualified adult chaperons as required by diocesan policy.
ATTENDANCE: Retreat participants are expected to dedicate the whole weekend to CROSS. Yes, it can be hard but it's worth it! Participation means arriving on time Friday night and staying for the entire weekend, not leaving until after Mass on Sunday.
CONTENT: We use the YouCat (Ignatius Press) for much of our teaching content. We also use the New American Bible and other resources. Our adult leaders carefully monitor all teaching to ensure its faithfulness. We are happy to share details with any adult youth minister or parent. Please contact the Office for Youth at the Diocese of Birmingham.
We recommend the YouCat to youth ministers, parents and teenagers. It was endorsed by the Pope Benedict XVI who wrote the foreword.
The October 5-7 Retreat is at Camp Tekakwitha. You can learn all about Camp Tekakwitha at www.camptekakwitha.net
The March 8-10 Retreat is at Springville Camp and Conference Center. Take a look at the Springville Camp and Conference Center on-line at http://www.springvillecamp.com/.
Springville Camp and Conference Center is owned and operated by the Alabama District Council of the Assemblies of God
REGISTER EARLY: We usually accept registrations as long is there is room. When a retreat reaches capacity we stop registration.. The CROSS Retreat frequently sells out, so register as early as possible. You can download the registration form from the "Save Me A Space" page on this web-site.
LASTLY: This isn't your parent's CROSS. The CROSS Retreat has changed and grown over the years. It is not the same retreat we did twenty years ago or even two years ago. We use modern materials and we know what's appropriate and we're not afraid to hear and benefit from constructive criticism.
